Fentanyl Sickens Deputies, EMTs Responding To GA Truck Crash: Report

GEORGIA — First responders in Gilmer County who became sick after exposure to a toxic substance at a traffic accident have since tested positive for fentanyl, authorities said Monday. The two Gilmer County deputies and five paramedics fell ill after treating two people who were in a pick-up truck that hit a tree on Boardtown Road Thursday night. Those seven were treated and later released from nearby hospitals, according to an initial statement from Gilmer County as reported by Fetch Your News. The Gilmer County Sheriff's office said in Monday's statement that the people in the truck were transporting the fentanyl. Exactly what charges they face is unclear, reported WSB-TV in Atlanta. Neither the first responders or the people in the truck have been publicly identified. WSB reports that all first responders are expected to return to work within the week.
