REPORTS TO: Ranch Manager JOB SUMMARY: The Ranch Operations Hand is a critical team member who, in collaboration with the Associate Director, the Ranch Manager, and other Foundation staff, under general or direct supervision, will work to maintain Ranch property, structures, equipment, technology, vehicles, tools and supplies, and will provide logistic support for Ranch tours, special events and preservation projects. Successful applicants will be team players, possess strong communications skills, and also demonstrate initiative and an ability to work independently. They will be detail oriented, conscientious, and diligent to see tasks through to completion. Experience in one or more of the following: operations maintenance, landscape work, ranch work, construction trades, is required. Experience or an aptitude for training in fire protection is desired. The position requires the ability to maintain a calm demeanor and perform duties under stressful conditions, lift 50+ lbs, to walk, stand, sit, climb stairs and ladders, and work outdoors for significant periods of time. The willingness to work weekends, and occasional holidays is a plus. A valid CA driver’s license, and reliable transportation (The Ranch is about 25 miles north of Santa Barbara and involves a narrow, winding 5+ mile climb up a mountain road ) is required. The Ranch Operations Hand may be called on to perform select duties of the Ranch Manager, or coordinate with outside service providers as directed. RESPONSIBILITIES: Physical plant • Work to maintain the Ranch Project physical plant infrastructure, structures, land, roads and trails, vehicles, equipment, tools, and supplies • Work closely with Foundation staff members, outside vendors and contractors to coordinate, or provide, logistic support for Foundation activities, tours and events • Assist with the supervision of contractors and service providers to ensure that Ranch Project security and preservation protocols are adhered to • Assist in the maintenance and execution of Ranch Project emergency response and security preparedness plans and resources to ensure the safety and protection of the Ranch properties personnel, guests, land, improvements, artifacts, equipment, tools, and livestock Landscape maintenance • Operate mower, weed whip, chain saw, and use hand tools to maintain or repair lawns, fields, irrigation lines, paths, fencing, ponds, roadways, etc. PERSONAL QUALITIES: • Self-motivated, organized, and flexible. • Ability to work independently. • Willingness to comply with YAF policies, procedures and practices. • Ability to work as a collaborative, constructive team member.
