Now Hiring an HVAC Mechanic! University of New Hampshire, Facilities Department Under general supervision of the designated supervisor, perform the work requiring skill in the trade of HVAC for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems. Responsible for providing excellent customer service and producing the highest quality of work and services to multiple technical systems. Provide expertise in the HVAC field for troubleshooting complex issues applying trade knowledge exclusive to those with the highest level of HVAC experience. This position may perform duties related to chiller maintenance, complex dining refrigeration or highly restricted Research constant temperature control systems. All HVAC Mechanics are expected to act as department leaders to mentor apprentices and share specific knowledge with others in the field of HVAC maintenance. UNH Facilities is a 24/7/365 operation and has responsibilities related to campus safety and emergency response. Due to the nature of our business, employees may be asked to flex schedules and/or respond to requests outside of normal working hours in order to meet the demands of the university. This may include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed. Minimum Qualifications: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and DOT medical card (if applicable based on assigned vehicle weight). 3. Completion of Two-Year HVAC certification training. 4. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Technician license. 5. Valid NH Gasfitters License. 6. A combination of professional education, certificates, and experience in HVAC equal to 6 years, desirable certifications include: a. HVAC Electrical Pro Troubleshooting/ HVAC Electrical Troubleshooting certificate from Carrier or Trane b. HVAC Mechanical Pro Troubleshooting/Commercial Service 1 from Carrier or Trane. c. Certifications or related experience in the following disciplines to qualify for positions within outlined zones: i. OPS A: Certificates or equivalent work experience on environmental constant temperature research boxes and commercial HVAC in an educational/life science-building environment. ii. OPS B: Certificates or equivalent work experience with commercial refrigeration/rack systems and ammonia systems in an educational/dining/food services environment. iii. OPS C: Certificates or equivalent work experience on centrifugal, rotary, absorption, and reciprocating chillers in an educational environment. 7. Ability to read and work from blueprints, technical manuals, charts, and schematics. 8. Knowledge of applicable codes/ordinances. 9. Knowledge of methods, tools, and hazards of the trade. 10. Ability to inspect the equipment, determine malfunction, and make necessary repairs. 11. Knowledge and ability to use computers, tablets, smartphones, and software systems to perform work duties. 12. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time. 13. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary. 14. Solid interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written, to effectively communicate with customers, team members, contractors, and supervisors.
