Description
DESCRIPTION
One or two people are sought to assist in the preservation, restoration, and renovation of an eighteenth-century house and accompanying nineteenth-century barn. Work will be performed under the supervision of a retired contractor/homeowner with forty years of professional preservation carpentry experience. Full- or part-time hours are available, with a minimum of 25 hours/week.
PROJECTS MAY INCLUDE
Installation of new roof
Reinforcement of structural elements including siding, sills, and chimney repair
Repairing and installing new (and old) windows and doors
Installation of new bathroom
Constructing barn lofts and framing work space in barn
Renovating three-season porch
Construction of patio and pergola
Painting and preparation (interior and exterior)
Any necessary renovation work that is uncovered in process of construction.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of general carpentry techniques and the ability to safely and confidently use basic equipment
A keen interest in, and willingness to learn about, historic preservation
The ability to work both in a team and under minimal supervision when required
The ability to communicate effectively to support project management and completion
General curiosity and a problem-solving mentality
A respectful, responsible approach to workplace relationships
Good work ethic
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience in basic construction, historic preservation work preferred
Working knowledge of construction and general safety standards.
PHYSCAL DEMANDS:
Ability to carry up to 100 lbs
Ability to work in precarious positions such as a roof or on second-story loft framing
