Shelter Order Lifted At CA Marine Combat Center After Accidental Shot

TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA — A shelter-in-place order was lifted Monday afternoon at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms after a weapon accidentally fired. "We have received reports of shots fired on board MCAGCC," the official account of the combat center tweeted around 10 a.m. The report of shots fired came anonymously just before 9 a.m., the combat center said. Just before 1 p.m., the center said a weapon "inadvertently discharged." No one was hurt. The shooting is under investigation. "The installation is secure and base personnel are free to resume activity," the combat center said. Twentynine Palms is about 130 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. Marines at the combat center conduct relevant live-fire arms training, urban operations and other trainings. The Marine Corps took charge of the base in 1952. It contains active-duty Marines, sailors, civilians, family members, contractors and retirees.
