Dublin High Athletes Continue To Break Barriers

DUBLIN, CA — The Dublin High School Athletics Department hasn't had a normal season in two years. Still, they haven't let anything hold them back and had a historical win over the weekend. "It took 107 years, but for the first time since the inception of the North Coast Section (NCS) Track and Field Meet of Champions (MOC) in 1915, one school has captured league and section titles in both Cross Country and Track and Field in the same season," Athletic Director Tim Sbranti said. Head coach Chris Williams described the win as another addition to an amazing year during one of the most difficult times. "I've coached a long time and I can tell you that this was the hardest thing we've ever done. But in track there's just one NCS champion, so we really are the best team in all of the North Coast," Williams said. The team has been overwhelmed with the pandemic and personal hardships. This past weekend's achievement was made while Williams was dealing with a personal family matter. "They understand how much they've overcome to get to this point. To see the level of joy, how many boys cried tears of joy, they were so happy because they achieved so much," Williams said. Williams gave credit to the staff for always pitching in and having his back. "Our staff did a phenomenal job of holding everything together," he said. Adding another record breaker, 22 student athletes qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation State Meet at the end of the month, the most the school has ever sent to the competition. It's safe to say, Dublin athletes are tough. "It's a great culture that the kids have created about working hard and pushing themselves," Williams said. "Every person is important. I love these kids."
