A message for the Nashville Music Community

Description

Take a moment out of your day to read this, because this is something crucial this community needs to learn. Hold off the allegations of flame bait or flagging until you reach the end, and digest the memo. Musicians come in here, looking to start bands. Not everyone, talented as they may be, will have a demo. You're unlikely going to have ties to Jason Aldean or Dave Mustaine of Megadeth that a demo would be needed anyway. Think, for a second, how a community like this formed bands in the 70's, 80's, 90's, even the very early 00's. You responded to an ad, people responded back, you got together to jam, and chemistry worked out (and sometimes, it didn't). Unless you're an A-list producer or musician seeking touring or studio members, you didn't request a demo. The point? Someone can be a great musician, be good at their craft, yearn to do this for a living, and not have a demo. Nor should we all expect them to. It's nice if they do, but you don't ghost them or pass them over because they don't. You find musical interest, get together, and jam. That's how its ALWAYS worked. Youtube channels and Spotify links are not, nor have ever been, a requirement here. How all the bands we know from the past 50 years have come together. Imagine had many of these musicians had the same "demo or nothing" mentality this community has. Everything from Genesis to Black Flag to Nirvana might not even exist. Become more open-minded and inclusive Nashville, it might just help the musicians that are trying to seek acceptance, let alone make it, in this town. Embrace some of that Southern Hospitality. Peace.
