GRAYSLAKE, IL — A dump truck driver was killed Monday morning when a Metra commuter train hit the vehicle and partially derailed near Grayslake, according to media reports. The front car of the train went off the tracks after hitting the dump truck shortly after 7 a.m. near Route 120 and Hainesville Road, according to WGN. One passenger on the train was taken away on a stretcher after suffering injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening. The dump truck driver's identity has not yet been released. Extensive delays are expected on the Metra Milwaukee District North line, and trains are currently stopped in both directions, according to the Metra website. Customers at Fox Lake, Ingleside, Long Lake, Round Lake and Grayslake should consider seeking alternate transportation, according to Metra. The collision comes days after a Metra passenger died after a train hit a semi-truck in Clarendon Hills. The death was the second incident in Metra's 40-year history that a passenger was killed. Two other passengers and two crew members were injured in the crash, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening, Metra spokeswoman Meg Riley said.
