Description
RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge is expected to gain a new tool to collect fines generated by its local court, which hears cases involving small infractions.
On Monday, the Village Board is set to vote on an ordinance requiring anyone seeking village services such as building or liquor licenses to pay their fines first.
Since the court formed in early 2021, the number of property owners owing money to the village has grown, according to a village memo. Some of them have tried to obtain village services.
Now, the village has no legal mechanism to compel property owners to pay their debts to the court before obtaining a permit or a license. The ordinance would apply to any debts more than $100.
