LAKE GROVE, NY — A Lake Grove man was arrested after Suffolk police said he assaulted and seriously injured a woman and then barricaded himself in his home for five hours on Sunday. Jarrod Pearson, 43, was involved in a domestic dispute with a woman in his family when he tried to choke her, police said. The woman, who also suffered a head injury during the altercation, and a 17-year-old girl, fled the house and walked to a neighbor's home to call 911 around 3 a.m., police said. The woman was brought to a hospital to be treated for serious physical injuries, while the teenager was not injured, police said. Fourth Precinct officers, Fourth Squad detectives, Emergency Service Section officers and members of the hostage negotiation team responded to the Chester Street home and got Pearson to surrender to police around 8 a.m., police said. Pearson was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
