U.S. 60 Fully Reopens In Tempe After Two-Week Closure

TEMPE, AZ — The westbound lanes of U.S. 60 in Tempe that had been closed for more than two weeks finally reopened Sunday night, according to a news release from the city. The westbound lanes between Loop 101 and McClintock Drive were reopened around 10 p.m. on Sunday. The section of highway was closed after a city of Tempe water transmission line burst near U.S. 60 on May 7, flooding the highway and causing significant damage. The eastbound lanes, which experienced less damage than the westbound lanes, were reopened last week. The eastbound U.S. 60 off ramp at McClintock Drive was also reopened, but there are still lane restrictions on McClintock Drive in the area of U.S. 60. North and southbound lanes on McClintock Drive are open, and drivers can make left turns, but traffic there could be delayed as workers in the area continue to repair the broken water transmission line. Tempe Mayor Corey Woods declared Monday U.S. 60 Workers Day in a show of appreciation for the workers who labored to repair the roadway. "Working around the clock, these dedicated men and women helped reopen the U.S. 60 as quickly and as safely as possible," Woods said in the news release. "They are shining examples of public service." In around a month, the righthand westbound lane and shoulder of U.S. 60 as well as the westbound McClintock Drive off-ramp will be closed during the repair of the water line on the slope to the north of the highway. As of Monday, no dates for those closures had been set.
