DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The May 24 General Primary and Nonpartisan General Election is Tuesday in Douglasville and Douglas County, and voters have already begun submitting absentee ballots through early voting locations, mail and drop boxes. This year, Douglas County voters will choose candidates for judge, state senate, state house, solicitor general, county commission and county board of education. Georgia State Senate (Districts 28, 30 and 35) In Districts 28 and 30, incumbent Republicans Matt Brass and Mike Dugan are running unopposed. In District 35, three Democrats — Mike Glanton Jr., Lula Gilliam and Whitney Kenner Jones — are vying for their party's nomination against incumbent Donzella Jones. Georgia State House (Districts 61, 64, 65 and 66) In District 61, incumbent Democrat Roger Bruce is facing challenges from Robert Dawson, Rashaun Kemp and Monique McCoy. No Republicans are running. Six candidates — three Democrat and three Republican — are vying to represent District 64, which includes parts of Fayette, Fulton and Paulding counties: Montenia Edwards DChristopher R. Douglas County Solicitor General Two Democrats are competing to be solicitor general: incumbent Soyna Compton; and Tamara Oyinloye, who previously had worked in Compton's office. Election Day The polls will be open for the May 24 Primary Election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can verify your precinct and polling location by visiting the Secretary of State Poll Locator. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you are allowed to cast your ballot. On Election Day, you must vote at your designated polling place. You can find your assigned polling location on your voter registration card, by logging into the Secretary of State's My Voter Page, or by contacting your County Board of Registrar's Office. When you get to your polling place, show your photo ID to the poll worker. A poll worker will check your photo ID, verify that you are registered and at the correct polling location, issue you a voter access card or ballot, whichever is applicable, and allow you to vote.
