BUCKHEAD, GA — The May 24 election is quickly approaching in Buckhead, and voters have already begun submitting absentee ballots through early voting locations, mail and drop boxes. This year, Buckhead Atlanta voters will decide on races for commissioner chairperson, commissioners, Board of Education and judges. The ballots will also include statewide elections, such as governor, secretary of state, attorney general, agriculture commissioner, insurance commissioner, state school superintendent and labor commissioner. Commissioners Chairperson, Board of commissioners: Incumbent Robb Pitts is running for re-election against Jewel Johnson and Sonya Russell. Four candidates qualified for County Commissioner District 1, which encompasses Northeast Fulton. District 1 includes the four cities east of Georgia 400, Johns Creek, East Alpharetta, East Roswell and Sandy Springs. There is no incumbent. Bridget Thorne, Matthew C. Tyser, Ricky Blalock and Maggie R. Goldman are running for the County Commissioner District 1 seat. County Commissioner District 3 incumbent Lee Morris is running against Dana Barrett. District 3 encompasses the southern part of Sandy Springs, all of Buckhead, and parts of Midtown. County Commissioner District 5 incumbent Marvin Arrington Jr. is being challenged by Robert H. Kelly and Andre R. Sales. Fulton County Board of Education District 2: Brittany Griffin and Lillie Pozatek qualified; no incumbentDistrict 5: Kimberly Ware and Kristin Mccabe qualified; no incumbentDistrict 6: Incumbent Kimberly R. Eady running unopposedState Court Judge Eric Richardson running unopposedChief Magistrate Judge Cassandra Kirk running unopposed Election Day Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, May 24. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you are allowed to cast your ballot. On Election Day, you must vote at your designated polling place. You can find your assigned polling location on your voter registration card, by logging into the Secretary of State's My Voter Page, or by contacting your County Board of Registrar's Office. When you get to your polling place, show your photo ID to the poll worker. A poll worker will check your photo ID, verify that you are registered and at the correct polling location, issue you a voter access card or ballot, whichever is applicable, and allow you to vote.
