Description
We operate a variety of vessels here on the Maine coast from the 151′ LOA, 121′ hull length, 4-masted schooner Margaret Todd and the 91′ LOA, 64′ hull length schooner Bailey Louise Todd, to coastal ferries and a number of 6-passenger private charter vessels including 34′ hull length schooner Delight and the 1912 Historic lobster sloop Chrissy. We have a variety of positions available to the right candidates – for both experienced Captains with suitable hands on experience skippering larger vessels to entry level newly licensed Captains who will be operating a vessel for the first time. We are very much a hands-on organization with many staff who have started as deckhands and moved on to captain a number of our vessels. A good work ethic and team work is required along with a serious interest in traditional working vessels is at our core. We have restored, renovated and even built many of the vessels we operate and ALL our staff get their hands dirty from the newest crew member to the most senior captains. Our sailing area on the Maine coast is some of the most beautiful in the world, surrounded by Acadia National Park and spectacular scenery. However, it is also challenging with a rock-bound coastline and often dense fog. Visit our website to view more of our operations and submit an application: www.downeastwindjammer.com. We have openings for those with 100 ton auxiliary sail licenses and above, down to “6 pack” licenses and licenses in-between including 50 ton aux sail and straight power licenses. If you are currently in the process of obtaining your first USCG license, we may also have a place for you too! Since we operate multiple vessels, there are opportunities to transition from crew to part-time Captain as you gain experience operating a variety of smaller vessels.
