Description
(His hair is now longer/curlier) I found this dog under a trailer in Gretna in February (under a classroom actually, where I work at Young Audiences Charter School). Without wanting to call animal control and with no knowledge of where he came from, I brought him to the vet. He had no microchip and aside from being underweight and having gross, overgrown, matted fur full of cockaburrs he was in good health. He had no microchip and after asking around, making Found Dog posters and trying Facebook and Craigslist, I gave up looking for his owners. Truthfully I was anxious to reconnect him with his previous owners anyway as he at first demonstrated common signs of abuse (afraid of men, leashes, and corners). I got him bathed, groomed, caught up on all of his tests, shots, heartworm, etc. Since he looks like a tired old man (despite only being 2 years old) I named him Grandpa :) He follows me around, sits in my lap, sleeps curled on on my side. Grandpa is a really sweet, intelligent dog. He is a great companion, cuddle bug and will stay right at your heels if you chose to walk him without a leash. The only downside is that can be a bit defensive at times, and will bark when people come over etc. He also barks excessively when my 2 (big) dogs play but he loves smaller dogs and I believe he'd do well with cats. I would love to keep him but the 3 dogs are just too much, especially the noise volume since my big dogs bark even more than he does... Grandpa is almost entirely potty trained but will have a #1 accident in the night if I don’t take him out late/early enough. As of right now he hasn't had an accident in 2 weeks. I can see him being happier in a house without children who would be rough with him, and with smaller dogs vs. bigger dogs who sometimes freak him out. I've spent 500 getting him clean, healthy and adoptable (bloodwork, a bunch of tests, grooming, heartworm/flea/tick/etc vaccinated, and neutered I can provide you with those receipts from Magazine St Animal Hospital) so I was hoping to get reimbursed for this via a $500 rehoming fee.
