Description
Embrace Ideas Festival- Day 2 Harvard Medical School EmbraceIdeasFestival.org On Day 2 of Embrace Ideas Festival, hosted by Harvard Medical School, we explore what healing from racialized trauma can look and feel like. Keynote speaker, Michael Curry, President and CEO of Mass League of Community Health Centers, joins Jeneé Osterheldt, culture columnist with the Boston Globe, to explore key learnings and lessons for us all to embody. The keynote session is followed by a dynamic panel of Black, women healers in conversation about embodied healing from racialized trauma. King Boston’s Director of Community Engaged Research, Dr. April Inniss, will welcome the following panelists: Dr. Thea James, Boston Medical Center; Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, Carequest; Dr. Joan Reede, Harvard Medical School and Dr. Cheryl Clark , Associate Chief, Brigham and Women’s Hospital Division of General Medicine and Primary Care. Unwind, connect, and enjoy small bites with fellow Festival attendees from 4-6pm with King Boston’s Artist-in-Resident, Kaovanny. Enjoy the evening at One Night in Boston sponsored by The Huntington Theatre to watch the riveting play Common Ground Revisited Common Ground Revisited The Pulitzer Prize-winning classic comes to powerful theatrical life! This riveting and intricately woven world premiere play brings Boston’s history to life in the 1960s and 70s, culminating in three families’ experiences in court-mandated busing. Diverse in both race and class, what can these families’ experiences tell us about our own time? Especially when Boston Public Schools are more segregated in 2021 than they were in 1974. Common Ground Revisited is inspired by Anthony Lukas’ landmark Pulitzer Prize winning book, which The New York Times praises as an “epic of American city life.” Developed with ArtsEmerson, this unique work comes from Obie Award winners Melia Bensussen and Kirsten Greenidge, reteaming for the first time since their acclaimed Huntington production of Luck of the Irish. This week-long gathering brings together local, state and national leaders to amplify anti-racism and a vision for a transformed Boston by 2030. Rooted in racial equity, healing, wellbeing, and joy, the theme of Embrace Ideas 2022, occurring June 13-17 of 2022, is “Building A New Boston Together”. Keynotes, panels, and live music will shine a light on how we can interrupt our zero sum game thinking when it comes to racial justice and realizing a democracy worthy of us all. In this inaugural celebration, King Boston will also introduce a community well-being dashboard that will be revisited annually to describe measurable transformation in Boston by 2030 toward radical inclusion and equity.
