Celebrate final day of #Black Birder's Week, #LifelongJourney, as we share about intergenerational learning and how birding connects us. Join environmental educator Nicole Jackson (co-organizer, Black Birder's Week) and Jennifer Lumpkin (community organizer, My Grow Connect) to celebrate Black Birder's Week in Cleveland; and learn about the importance of connecting, learning, and healing in nature. Nicole Jackson (she/her) is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, Nicole graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Education. A nature enthusiast, park advocate, and birder, she loves spending time outside and has a passion for getting people from underserved communities connected to the wonders of the natural world. Nicole currently works as a coach and environmental education consultant assisting in creating programs that educate youth and families on how to build a healthy relationship with nature. She is also board member of the Columbus Audubon and the founder of Black in National Parks Week. Jennifer L. Lumpkin is a Catalytic Strategist and Community Organizer with past and present campaigns in groups and organizations including University of Washington, D.C. Beltsville Agricultural Research Farm, Rooting DC, After School All Stars, Prince George’s Food Equity Council, Cleveland VOTES, Cuyahoga County Jail Coalition, Black Environmental Leaders, Concerned Citizens Organized Against Lead, Black Lives Matter Cleveland, Cuyahoga Food Policy Council and Participatory Budgeting Cleveland. Her organizing and partnership practice, My Grow Connect, is rooted in supporting the development of sustainable communities through creative relationship building, cultural organizing and mindful resource connections such as forest bathing and earthwork stewardship as ways to heal our people and spaces.
