Join for a sip on Frenchmen St. and meet PROJECT RUNWAY alumni Samantha Rei in New Orleans for a small fashion showcase of her recent works! On Sunday May 29th, the Black Lolita Community is hosting an evening soiree at Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, featuring special guest Minneapolis-based fashion designer Samantha Rei! Samantha Rei will be presenting fashion pieces past collections, including from her recent 2021 lingerie collection "Heliopause", pieces from fellow Seattle-based fashion brand Apatico. Here, all are welcome to learn about her journey as a designer, including her experience being on Season 16 of BRAVO's Project Runway, and her years of active involvement in the Minneapolis/St. Paul's alternative and fashion communities. Also get a sneak peek of her upcoming capsule collection, in tribute to her beginnings as a designer through her former gothic & lolita fashion brand Blasphemina's Closet. ------------- The Black Lolita Community (BLC) is a collective of black femme enthusiasts of "Gothic & Lolita" fashion subculture. Originating in the 1970s-80s on the streets of Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan, Gothic & Lolita fashion is defined by its aesthetic stemming from Edwardian and Baroque silhouettes and detailing, often mixing with influences of Eastern goth, punk and other alternative styles. Since the 2000s, Lolita fashion has grown into a feminist counterculture phenomenon, with an emphasis on freedom of alternative hyperfeminine expression, with thousands of admirers and active enthusiasts globally. The Black Lolita Community was created as a space for black & brown enthusiasts to share cultural and personal experiences in alternative fashion, historical inspiration, beauty and self-care advice, finding, building kinship, and to publicly showcase racial and cultural representation within the Gothic & Lolita global community. The event will take place in the Balcony Room, which is located on the second floor and is not ADA-accessible. All guests will be given a drink ticket with general admission, to be redeemed for any beverage at the bar. Additional drinks are available for purchase. Event Timeline:8pm: Check-in the Balcony Room begins 8:45-9:30pm: Samantha Rei fashion show and open talk panel Small meet & greet following. *subject to slight time changes -------------------------------- Event Policy:1) All attendees must be fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks before May 29th, in order to attend this event. Proof of vaccination and will be required for entry to the Balcony Room by Blue Nile staff & BLC representatives. 2) Because of the current rise of COVID-19, masks will be required to be worn when not eating or drinking, in order to protect each other, our designer and models. The balcony will also be allowing fresh air into the space for extra ventilation. 3) Representatives of the Black Lolita Community group or Blue Nile staff reserve the right to deny entry, or remove attendees from the premises in cases of unruly behavior.
