Jazz singer/pianist Chris Humphrey has been working with drummer Les Harris, Jr. on a labor of love in tribute to the great jazz trumpeter Clark Terry. Joining Chris and Les will are two fabulous Boston-based musicians; Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass and Thomas Palance on trumpet. Clark Terry was one of the only musicians to play with both Duke Ellington and Count Basie's orchestras. His sound on the trumpet and flugelhorn is immediately recognizable and his roots in the blues and soulfully felt music are deep and rich. Clark Terry was given an honorary PHD from the University of NH in 1978 and was a regular presence on the campus for many years before his death in 2015. Chris and Les were both on the faculty at UNH when Clark would have his many residencies, and played with him many times. Les has written lyrics to Dr. Terry's compositions and many of his improvised solos. A recording is in the works, but this concert provides a rare early look at their work in progress. Clark's voice lives on through these musicians who loved and respected the man. A Listening Room Experience Hermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from across New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate, up-close, and personal experience with the performing artists. To do this, we ask that our audience please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow both the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience, which is not otherwise possible in larger, noisier environments. All shows commence at 6:00 PM with a warm-up artist. We encourage you to arrive early and enjoy food and wine until 7:20 while listening to our first act of the evening. The kitchen will close at 7:00. We will introduce the featured artists at 7:20, and we will ask that the audience remain quiet during the performance. The first set will be from 7:30 to 8:15. There is a short intermission from 8:15 to 8:30, at which time you are encouraged to interact, freshen your drinks, and use the restrooms as needed. At 8:30, the show resumes with the second set, concluding between 9:00 and 9:15. After the show, we invite you to interact with the artists and purchase any music or merchandise offerings if available. 6:00 PM - 7:20 PM - Eat, drink, and be merry.
