Press release from Shreve Memorial Library: May 19, 2022 Shreve Memorial Library is partnering with the Louisiana Department of Health Office of Public Health Region 7 and Essential 4 Families Diaper Bank to host a supply drive in support of Period Poverty Week. Shreve Memorial Library branches throughout Shreveport will serve as drop of points for donations of feminine hygiene products and diapers from May 23 through May 27. Items collected will be distributed to girls, women and parents in need of the products. Period poverty is a lack of access to menstrual products, education, hygiene facilities, waste management or a combination of these factors. Many factors contribute to period poverty, especially in the urban core. However, financial hardship and lack of education are the most common constraints amongst families. According to recent studies, 2 out of 5 preteen or teenage girls said they have struggled to afford hygiene products at home, which has affected their school attendance and ability to participate in school sports and work. From Monday, May 23 through Friday, May 27, select Shreve Memorial Library branches will be accepting donations of feminine hygiene products and diapers of all sizes. The public may drop off items, such as pads, tampons, pH balanced soaps and body wash, feminine wipes, and diapers, at the Shreve Memorial Library branches listed below during normal business hours of Monday through Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Items will be accepted at the following Shreve Memorial Library branches: Atkins Branch, 3704 Greenwood RoadCedar Grove-Line Avenue Branch, 8303 Line AvenueDavid Raines Branch, 2855 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. DriveHamilton/South Caddo Branch, 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial LoopHollywood/Union Avenue Branch, 2105 Hollywood AvenueMooretown Branch, 4360 Hollywood AvenueWallette Branch, 363 Hearne Avenue This press release was produced by Shreve Memorial Library.
