NEWARK, NJ — An off-duty police officer was involved in a shooting Friday in Newark, according to authorities. The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Eckert Street, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a news release Sunday. There were no reported injuries, according to the news release, which said the officer was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and was discharged. The officer is a Newark police officer who was on loan to the Homicide Task Force of the Essex County prosecutor, the news release said. The Hudson County prosecutor's office is investigating the shooting to avoid a conflict of interest, according to the news release.
