Description

Bring the African diaspora together to celebrate cultures, nationalities, contributions & educate on history of the African people globally The African Heritage Parade is a representation of the African diaspora. WE are honoring diaspora members such at Reverend Leonard Comithier of Macedonia Baptist Church and Aaron Carter of Ujima Journey, who have made substantial contributions to the educational, cultural and spiritual wellbeing of the local African diaspora for many years. Visitors and participants can expect to see these honorees as they march. They will also learn about the groups and the services they provide. We will assemble at Malcolm X Park at the corner of Lark St and Clinton Avenue and parade south across Lark Street to Madison Avenue. There we will head east (downhill) past the Empire State Plaza and the Governor's Mansion to South Pearl St. At South Pearl Street will be Albany's Juneteenth Celebration. Here there will over 2,000 visitors and craft and food vendors. The Juneteenth Celebration will also have performances. This will continue until 6 PM. It promises to be a fun and educational day. A free CDTA trolley will bring marchers and observers from the finish line (South Pearl Street) back to the start (Lark Street and Clinton Avenue) all day so you don't have to worry about walking back to your car if you parked at the start.
