Description

An in-person one-day event that will provide participants an opportunity to develop tools for growth as advocates for change. GOAL STATEMENTSocial justice refers to a commitment to challenging social, cultural, and economic inequalities imposed on individuals arising from any differential distribution of power, resources, and privilege to create equitable and inclusive environments. The goal of SJC is to provide practitioners with an experience in which they can walk away with tools to help them grow as advocates for social justice in their communities, work environments or campuses. This experience will specifically focus on how to address systematic oppression in the work environment and help build more inclusive communities through best practices and theoretical education. LEARNING OUTCOMES SJC goal is to provide participants with an opportunity to explore, develop and share ideas, strategies, and programs centered on equity and inclusion so that professionals can garner “tools” for their own professional development that encourage and create inclusive experiences for their communities. Through this institute community members will develop a deeper capacity to: • Foster and guide brave space conversations that address how professionals can engage in action focused practices that address and move forward inclusive environments that foster the progression of equitable and inclusive work. • Ability to explore, understand and examine the historical, structural, and systemic foundations and constructs of race and ethnicity and their relationship to the impact this has on present-day events, processes, practices, and experiences in our work environments. • Provide tools that can create equitable and inclusive lens to help analyze and revise current policies, practices, and programs to create more inclusive programs, services, outcomes, and work culture. • Discussion on how to interrupt values and biases and to take effective action within their professional areas that address fostering and creating inclusive environments.
