Family Activity and University Museum Exhibit Alumni and their families are welcome to join the SIU Alumni Association and University Museum for activities and an exhibit all about making art with paper. The Association will be hosting paper mask making stations under the tent in the Guida-Moller Family Alumni Center Courtyard at Woody Hall from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In addition, the University Museum, located at the northern end of Faner Hall, will be hosting an exhibit featuring a collection of paper art for viewing. Take your family on a tour of the exhibit for inspiration to make your own paper masks. Association staff members will be on hand with supplies and guidance for getting started. This event is free, but you are asked to RSVP. Please check in at the tent when you arrive. About the University Museum ExhibitSince its discovery paper has been used in an endless number of applications. This seemingly simple object has managed to make its way into virtually every walk of life, From classrooms and offices to the walls of art galleries. After venturing through the University Museum’s collection, the Curators have managed to find some of the finest examples of the use of paper the Archive has to offer. Throughout the world many artists and artisans have manipulated this medium, and the Museum’s collection hosts a wide variety of such objects. From fine art lithographs & paper cut outs to Nepalese paper mâché masks. The University Museum has many vibrant and varied examples of how this medium has been used. These Artists and Artisans have elevated this universal medium to new heights through their practices. Creating fine art objects that are dynamic and colorful, reflecting the skill and creativity of the individuals who made them. Whether it is a lithograph from Andy Warhol or an Umbrella adorned with paper flowers. Each piece is a reflection of its creator, expertly portraying the intended emotion, drawing the viewer into its narrative. All this is accomplished with one endlessly applicable medium at its core: Paper.
