Driftless Adventure Join HighRoad Riders for a 500-mile overnight adventure in the Driftless Area—a unique geological region that’s untouched by the ice age glaciers which moved across the Midwest, leaving behind rocks, boulders, clay, and other sediment (otherwise referred to as drift). The Driftless Area is characterized by deeply cut river valleys (including the Mississippi River Valley), densely forested hills, bluffs, wetlands, hilltop prairies, winding roads, and rolling farmlands. The highest points in the Driftless Area are called mounds and are sacred sites to indigenous peoples. Each participant must register individually and make lodging arrangements for this ride (see lodging details below). During our trip, we will be visiting more than a half dozen mounds and scenic spots. Blue Mound, Blue Mounds, WIBelmont Mound, Platteville, WIPlatte Mound, Platteville, WILittle Mound, Platteville, WIMount Hosmer, Lansing, IAEffigy Mound, Harpers Ferry, IASherrill Mound, Sherrill, IACharles Mound, Scales Mound, ILOn Saturday, we will meet at 7:30 AM at Willow South Barrington, Parking Lot E. We will ride to the Machine Shed in Rockford for breakfast, then take some scenic backroads to the Ramada Inn in Richland Center, WI. After checking into the hotel, we will have a little time to relax before walking across the street from the hotel to the Dragon Buffet for dinner. On Sunday, we will be leaving the hotel at 7:30 AM and ride to an park overlooking the Mississippi River where we will have an outdoor devotion. From there we will take a scenic ride home, with a lunch stop at Breitbach's Country Dining in Balltown, IA. Please arrive at Willow Creek Community Church Parking Lot E by 7:30 AM with a full tank of gas. Lodging: We have a block of rooms at the Ramada Inn in Richland Center, WI, under the name: “HighRoad.” The room rate is $93.00 plus tax. The room block will be available until July 20. Please reserve your room directly with the hotel by calling them at 608-647-8869. YOU MUST MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATION BY JULY 20 AS OUR BLOCK OF ROOMS WILL BE RELEASED AT THAT TIME.
