STAMFORD, CT — Police said a 24-year-old Stamford man, who was in possession of a loaded gun, trespassed on private property on Hope Street Wednesday night and broke into a van. Allen Choute was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, criminal possession of a firearm and interfering with police, according to Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department. Those charges came with a $75,000 court-set bond. Additionally, Choute had a warrant for failure to appear related to charges of second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct and interfering. The warrant carried a $20,000 bond. Conklin said during the day on May 18, Choute was found on the property of a business located in the 900 block of Hope Street, and he was escorted off by security who told him not to return. A few hours later around 8 p.m., several people called police to report that a man, later identified as Choute, was trespassing on the property and broke into a parked van. Officers responded, and Choute exited the rear door of the van and placed his hand in his waistband, Conklin said. Officers gave him commands, and Choute started to walk backwards towards them, but took off. "Officers chased him on foot, giving him commands to stop. It looked like he was going to his waistband, and at that point, a taser was deployed that hit him in the thigh area. He let out a yell and threw something to the ground," Conklin said. Officers apprehended Choute, and found that he had thrown a loaded .40 caliber Taurus semi-automatic handgun. Choute was taken to the hospital for treatment from the taser deployment, and then he was returned to police headquarters. "This was a nice response by these officers," Conklin said, "and alert property owners and neighbors who saw this party trespassing and breaking into a vehicle."
