Press release from City School District of Albany: May 20, 2022 "The Day Tomorrow Stopped" -- a play written and performed by Albany High School students for the annual Promising Playwrights Festival -- opens Friday (tonight) for a three-performance run at Capital Repertory Theater. The opening night production is at 7 p.m. , with additional shows at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that all theater guests are required to wear masks. "The Day Tomorrow Stopped" takes place 20 years in the future, and a television journalist is interviewing people about their experiences as they dealt with loss from COVID, the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, the attack on the U.S. Capitol and other issues of the day. The play is a series of monologues where characters recount their experiences. It was written by Albany High junior Maia Ballato, sophomore Barbara Kirchgraber, sophomore Bella Lucarelli and freshman William O'Neill. Senior Johanna Caplis was script editor. Aaron Moore (Albany High Class of 2010) is director, and Camille Dobbs (Albany High Class of 2018) is assistant director. The cast includes: Tyair Ruth – brother, protester Johanna Caplis – therapist, protester Jazlyn Gorousingh – sister, protester Zella Delrow – sister, protest leader Iris Whalen – daughter, protester Maia Ballato – Candice, protester William O'Neill – mother, protester Barbara Kirchgraber – Mallory Stevenson, protester Jalissa Estrella – the interviewer, protester Bella Lucarelli – COVID, protester Rowan Hoehn – protester Isaiah Gillespie (senior) – father, brother, protester The play contains strong language and may not be appropriate for very young audiences.
