Marion is the place to be this Saturday with the return of the 30th Annual Marion Arts Festival in City Square Park, the Arts & Craft Beer Festival happening in the Uptown Artway and Great American Kites happening at the PeeWee Diamonds at Lowe Park.
Residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of localized road closures that will be in place to accommodate the festival, road races and construction.
Marion Arts Festival
Seventh Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets and 10th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues will close at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 20, for vendor move-in and will remain closed until 8 p.m. on Saturday. Detours will be posted.
Marion Arts Festival Half Marathon and 5K
Both the half marathon and the 5K races will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, and will impact travel throughout Marion until approximately 11 a.m. that morning. Several officers will be on hand assisting runners and motorists as they navigate area roadways. The race routes will see intermittent closures on race day, depending on the volume of runners passing by. Maps of the race routes are available below.
7th Avenue Reconstruction, Streetscape & Plaza Project
Street reconstruction continues in the 700 block of 10th Street but all businesses are accessible from either their front or rear entrances. The intersection of 8th Avenue and 10th Street has been closed for water main work this week, but it will reopen by 8 a.m. on Friday, May 20.
