Romeoville Police To Conduct Safety Checks In Advance Of Memorial Day

ROMEOVILLE, IL – Officers from the Romeoville Police Department will be conducting roadside safety checks beginning next week in advance of the Memorial Day holiday weekend when traffic around the state and region are expected to pick up in volume. The safety checks, which will begin on May 27, are intended to promote the safety and well-being of motorists and are put in place to serve as a deterrent to those who might violate laws pertaining to the safe operation of a vehicle, police said. Police officers will be checking for drivers who are operating vehicles with defective equipment, who are driving without a valid driver's license or permit, without proof of insurance, without seatbelts, or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police officials said that the checks will be conducted at locations and at times that provide the maximum opportunity for detection and apprehension of motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
