In Cook County, customers will pay a bit more, with the average price at $5.25 as of Friday. Gas prices in the Chicago area, at an average price of $5.35 (compared to $4.77 in April), were well above the state average of $4.98 on Friday. In April, the average price of gas in Illinois was $4.37.
