Drummer? What Is "Twilight Zone Band Clone Syndrome"?

I have played drums for over 30 years. I have played in original bands and cover bands. I recently started looking for a classic rock band in need of a drummer. It hasn't gone very well! It seems like I am stuck in an episode of the "Twilight Zone". It seems like I keep meeting "BAND CLONES"!!! The members of these bands are not young guys. Most are over 35 years old, physically. But, mentally they seem to be retarded teenagers. It seems as if these "classic rock musicians" are suffering from delusional fantasies. One of these bands has been auditioning drummers for months. They're halfway decent, and play gigs that barely pay enough to cover expenses. They audition drummer, after drummer, after drummer but find some issue with everyone. They lie, distort, and mock those they audition. Is such behavior typical? If so, what causes this "Twilight Zone Band Clone Syndrome"? Should we start "naming names", and posting photos, as a warning to others?
