Description
LUTZ, FL — Hillsborough County Water Resources has issued a precautionary boil water notice for some customers in Lutz in northwest Hillsborough County.
Water service to the area was temporarily interrupted at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, after a contractor damaged a 12-inch water main line. The general boundary of the impacted area is Dale Mabry Highway to the east, Roseate Drive (the Hillsborough County and Pasco County line) to the north, Lutz-Lake Fern Road to the south, and the Suncoast Parkway to the west.
Although water service has been restored in the affected area, residential and commercial customers in the impacted area are advised to boil water as a precautionary measure until a rescission notice is issued.
The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County requires a precautionary boil water notice after pressure in the lines drops below a certain level. This notice means customers are advised, as a precautionary measure, to boil all tap water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes.
A rolling boil of one minute is enough. Cool before using. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
Before washing clothes, allow the water to run until it is clear. Discard any ice from automatic ice-makers.
This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink. Customers will be notified in the same method as this notice when the precautionary boil water notice is rescinded.
