Staples Girls Golf Extends Record to 9-1

The Staples Girls Golf Team travelled just a few minutes to Fairfield to bring home another victory with a score of 181-247 versus Warde on Monday, May 18. Warde was playing a few players short as four members of its team were out due to illness. Little-known to any of the golfers who did play is that a Wrecker, freshman Rachel Pontoriero, is the 2021 junior club champion at Smith Richardson, Warde's home course. The Staples rookie showed why she loves Smith, firing a 42 with the only birdie of the match for either team. Playing their final matches at Smith Richardson were Senior Co-Captains Lizzie Kuehndorf (48) and Leni Lemcke (45). "It's been a great four years playing the beautiful course of our neighbors Ludlowe and Warde. But I won't miss walking up hole 6!" commented Kuehndorf after the match. Sophomore Kathleen Coffey's 46 rounded out the scoring. Staples juniors Keeva Boyle and Ellery Vishno also played in the match. Wednesday has the Varsity Wreckers play host to St. Joes and the JV Squad hosts New Canaan. Thursday Varsity is on the road again (but to Wilton), a strong East Division team.
