LEESBURG, VA — Customers at a Leesburg convenience store detained a suspect who attempted to rob the facility on Thursday afternoon, police said. In a report, the Leesburg Police Department said the customers detained the suspect until police officers arrived on the scene.
Authorities identified the suspect as a "teenaged juvenile." They did not publicly release his name due to a Virginia law that protects the identities of minors.
Around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, Leesburg police officers received a report of a robbery in progress at a convenience store in the 100 block Dry Mill Road SW. Witnesses said the suspect was taking merchandise, according to the police department.
When officers arrived on the scene, customers at the store were detaining the suspect, police said. Authorities said the suspect complied with police officers, who took him into custody.
No injuries were reported, the police department said.
No criminal charges have been announced in connection with the incident. The Leesburg Police Department said the case was turned over to Loudoun County Juvenile Court Services Unit regarding criminal charges.
