BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A dump truck fire tied up traffic for more than an hour on Interstate 95 in northeastern Baltimore County Friday morning. Authorities credited passersby with providing critical aid to the driver, whose vehicle spilled fuel and prompted a multiagency response. "Several civilians who were driving on I-95 when the crash occurred played a crucial role in rescuing the driver from the burning truck," the Baltimore County Fire Department reported. "Thanks to their bravery, the driver escaped with non life-threatening injuries." I-95 south was closed in the area of mile marker 63.2, officials said before 9 a.m. "MAJOR DELAYS remain as cleanup continues," the Baltimore County Fire Department said just before 10 a.m. "Avoid the area if at all possible." By 11:15 a.m., authorities said all lanes had reopened except the left one. The Maryland Department of the Environment was assisting with cleanup since the truck spilled fuel, according to the Baltimore County Office of Emergency Management, which reported the crash happened near Kenwood and Hazelwood.
