Here are the top three stories today in Charleston: North Charleston community leaders are hosting a balloon release event to remember the mass shooting that occurred last year. The event will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Positive Vibes Ronjanae Smith Center on Reynolds Avenue. This will be a kid-friendly event meant to honor 14-year-old Ronjanae Smith and the other victims of the mass shooting. (WTMA)Park Circle Cares will be distributing food at North Charleston High School on Saturday. The food distribution will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the school's west side parking lot. The organization will be distributing fresh food. (WTMA)The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating how a female inmate suffered serious injuries at the Al Cannon Detention Center. The incident in question occurred on Wednesday after the unidentified inmate allegedly jumped from the second-tier balcony of a housing unit. The inmate was transported to MUSC with life-threatening injuries after being treated by detention deputies and medical staff at the jail.
