WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Citing state law, Western Springs is keeping secret its report on the attack of a 14-year-old Lyons Township High School student in late April. Patch sought the report through a public records request. On Monday, the village pointed to a state law that barred the disclosure of arrest records for juveniles. Such documents must be withheld in their entirety, according to the village. Under state law, only a limited group of people, including victims and their lawyers, can access the documents in question. Last month, the attack gained much attention because a video was posted online. Many criticized the school's administration on social media. At last week's Lyons Township High School board meeting, one person commented on the attack at South Campus. By contrast, in Hinsdale High School District 86, two residents spoke about the LTHS incident during public comments at last week's board meeting. Some of their information was unverified. In Lyons Township, the board president announced last week that the school's discipline policies were under review. Two students were arrested in connection with the incident.
