Flower Arranging Class at BurghBlooms Instructor: Lahia Annis-Christy, Founder and Owner, BurghBlooms Micro Urban Flower Farm, Larimer SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 2022 10 AM Flower Growing and Arranging session at BurghBlooms, a micro urban flower farm, Larimer Materials Fee: $50.00, payable to BurghBlooms Host and Instructor: Lahia Annis-Christy, owner and founder, At the height of summer blooming season, what could be more perfect than spending your morning creating a beautiful cut-flower bouquet? Come join this class led by Lahia Annis-Christy, of BurghBlooms cut-flower subscription service. Burghblooms is a micro urban flower farm located in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Larimer that offers spring and summer seasonal flower arrangements on a subscription basis. Lahia will supply the flowers (ones that she grows as well as supplementing from other local growers as needed) and a vase for a materials fee of $40 per person. Free on-street parking is ample. Details about an RSVP deadline and payment options for the materials fee will be available in the upcoming weeks. After visiting a u-pick flower field and arranging flowers for her daughter's first birthday, Lahia decided she wanted to make flowers a more central part of her life. Since then, she has been working to cultivate the vacant lot next to her house and transform it into a beautiful and productive flower farm. “I believe that the magic of locally grown flowers is for everyone, and I love sharing that magic with our community through flower subscriptions, custom arrangements, and grab-and-go bouquets”, say Lahia. Some biographical information from Lahia: “My pronouns are she/her. I moved to Pittsburgh to attend Pitt for undergrad and grad school, earning a masters in teaching. My husband and I bought our 130 year old home in Larimer 7 years ago, and we have been working to fix it up slowly but surely. :) I work as an at-home mom to our 3 year old daughter. I am passionate about social justice, especially related to issues of childbirth, parenting, and equal access to resources for people in disinvested neighborhoods to connect with the earth through gardening. I love learning and have continued my education studying flower farming, gardening, and flower design. I'm a member of the Association of Speciality Cut Flower Growers and am a recent recipient of an Awesome Pittsburgh grant to build and install a Little Seed Library in Larimer." The program begins at 10 am, and is free to members of the Highland Park Garden Club. Non-members are can attend the presentation with a donation through Eventbrite.
