Description
We are a small catering company dedicated to local and sustainable sourcing, we are seeking a chef willing to cook collaboratively on creative dishes in a challenging space, as well as work at offsite events. The ideal candidate is someone that has a highly professional work ethic, passion for their craft, can follow directions, is clean and organized, is always on time, can work with flexible hours, and understands that working for a small business sometimes means you are chief bottle washer as well as lead chef (i.e. a team player). What you will be responsible for: Food production at off-premise events as well as drop-off catering Completing food preparation, driving food to events, and executing the event Cooking or directly supervising the cooking of items requiring skilled preparation Preparing ingredients according to list created by chef Minimizing waste by producing food in proper quantities and using scraps creatively Cutting, slicing, and storing raw ingredients Wrapping, labeling, dating, and storing food in appropriate places Setting up, restocking, and cleaning work stations Following recipes to correctly prepare menu items Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and designated work stations Preparing all food in accordance with local, state, and federal standards and regulations Building out field kitchens at off-premise events Leading the kitchen at off-premise events Job Requirements: Minimum 3 years experience Can cook food from all areas of world cuisine Understands the growing season in DC area Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, and with executive chef frequently not on site. Ability to handle the pressure of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and dealing with clients’ last-minute changes Ability to work in any type of kitchen: residential, corporate, or outdoors Ability to use hot box (if no oven available) Ability to problem solve and “get the food out” under any conditions Adhering to timelines is a must Ability to handle any menu ranging from breakfast buffets to corporate lunch meetings with sandwiches to formal dinners with multi-course meals that are individually plated Previous high volume food and/or catering experience a plus Must be able to read prep lists and communicate via email and text Must have or obtain a current Driver’s License Working Conditions Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting and lifting products and supplies that may weigh 50 pounds and repetitive hand and wrist motion. Kitchen is a shared space and requires working well with others and being extremely organized while adhering to the rules of the community kitchen.
