WRIGHT COUNTY, MN — The trial for Gregory Ulrich, who is accused of fatally shooting a medical assistant and seriously injuring four others in a February 2021 attack at a clinic in Buffalo, is due to start Monday, according to reports. Jury selection for Ulrich's trial started May 16 and was expected to take up to two weeks, but 12 jurors were seated by Thursday, the Star Tribune reported, adding the process should wrap up Friday, with opening arguments to be made Monday. Ulrich, 68, of Buffalo, faces one count of murder, four counts of attempted murder and more than a dozen other charges, including using an explosive or incendiary device and carrying a firearm in a public place without a permit, KARE 11 reported. He was charged in October, about eight months after the fatal shooting at Allina Health's Buffalo Crossroads clinic. A grand jury indicted Ulrich after he was found to be competent to stand trial in August, Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes said. Police said Ulrich walked into the Buffalo clinic on the morning of Feb. 9, 2021, and started shooting. He killed 37-year-old medical assistant Lindsay Overbay and seriously injured four others, while he also set off two explosive devices in the clinic that morning before surrendering, police said. Allina Clinic in Buffalo reopened in September, more than seven months after the fatal shooting. Lindsay Overbay was devoted to her two kids, with a friend telling KARE 11 that she "absolutely lived and breathed for her children." She "lived her life to the fullest" when she was with her children, according to her obituary. "What gave Lindsay the most joy in life was spending time with her family, and every moment she shared with her children," her family wrote in her obituary Overbay was well-known for her "infamous" laugh and had "an uncanny ability to light up a room with her personality," her family wrote. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 2002 before earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from St. Cloud State University, according to her obituary. She later studied in Las Vegas to become a medical assistant and was pursuing a degree as an ultrasound technician at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. "Lindsay loved every minute of caring for others in the medical field; her favorite part was being able to help people, and checking up on 'them babies,'" her family wrote.
