FREMONT, CA — A nearly nine-hour standoff between a man barricaded in a condo and Fremont Police ended around 6 p.m. Friday, but not peacefully.
"When the subject was contacted there was a brief struggle with the police," the department said in a statement released on Nixle. "Soon after, the subject had an emergency medical issue. The subject received emergency treatment at the scene by the Fremont Fire Department. The subject was then transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment."
The standoff began shortly after 9 a.m. when a fire was reported at a condo in the 46000 block of Winema Common. When firefighters arrived, the man told them he had a gun and ordered them out.
The rest of the complex was evacuated.
Crisis negotiators spent the day communicating with him, even having food delivered to him, but the standoff has continued.
The condo is in the 46000 block of Winema Common, in the Warm Springs area, near the Safeway store.
According to Redfin, the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo was purchased in February for $684,800.
