EDINA, MN — Officials in the Edina Public Schools system recently detailed construction plans for the summer, with projects planned throughout the district. Summer projects are slated at Edina High School, Valley View and South View middle schools, and Concord, Creek Valley and Highlands elementary schools. Many of the projects are part of the district's 10-year facilities plan, and some are funded by the $7 million bond issue that voters approved in May 2021, according to officials. All west entrances to Edina High School will be closed for the summer, with the eastern doors to serve as the main entrance to the school, officials said. Edina School Board Lauds Resigning Member, Eyes Plans For Vacancy Visitors to the Edina Community Center will be required to park in the lots near the stadium or across the street, with the lot between the facility and South View Middle School to serve as a staging and park area for construction vehicles over the summer, officials said. Summer projects at the Edina Community Center include replacing single-pane windows, doors, sidewalks, stairs and a ramp, as well as a boiler and parts of the roof, officials said. Edina High School will get a new roof over the east side of the building, while crews are set to create a bus drop-off zone at Creek Valley Elementary to improve safety for pedestrians, bike riders and cars ahead of the 2022-23 school year. Edina High School Senior Named US Presidential Scholar The parking lot at Valley View Middle School will be redesigned,, while the school's auditorium stage floor and boiler will be replaced, according to the district's plans. The parking lot redesign will force the frontage road along the west side fields to close, officials said. South View Middle School is also set to get a new auditorium stage floor, while Concord Elementary windows will be replaced and lighting will be upgraded, officials said. Crews are set to install a traffic gate at Highlands Elementary to separate the asphalt play area from the parking lot, officials said. Bond-funded traffic improvements at the school are scheduled for next summer, according to the district.
