Description
Press release from the Tuscaloosa County Government: May 19, 2022 School may soon be out for summer, but that doesn't mean our TCSS Child Nutrition Team will stop providing nutritious meals to children in our community! Throughout the summer, many of our cafeterias will remain open, serving no-cost meals to students attending a variety of summer programs in our schools. Individual schools and summer programs will share information directly with participants about meals. Additionally, we will have several locations throughout our school system, participating in the Break for a Plate Summer Meals Program. Through this program, anyone age 18 and under is invited to eat breakfast and lunch, free of charge. A child does not have to be enrolled in our school system to enjoy meals with us, but they must be present to receive a meal. Dates, times, and locations for this program are listed below. This summer, Break for a Plate meals will be served inside our cafeterias, instead of the curbside or mobile meals we have served for the past two years. We are glad to return to serving inside our cafeterias, as this provides social interaction for children and the opportunity to see familiar faces they see throughout the school year! In addition to the five locations open to anyone age 18 and under, the Walker Elementary cafeteria will be open during the same dates, serving no-cost meals to students of Walker Elementary, Northside Middle, and Northside High. Students do not have to be enrolled in a summer program to enjoy a meal at Walker, but they must be a student of one of these schools. We look forward to serving the young people of our community in our school cafeterias this summer!
