Third Person Dies In December In Manchester Homeless Camps

MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester police are on the scene of a body found near the banks of the Merrimack River behind the Delta Dental Stadium on South Commercial Street. Saturday morning around 8:30 am Manchester fire and AMR responded to the boat ramp for a report of an unresponsive male in a vehicle. Firefighters arrived on the scene and immediately reported the person was deceased and requested that Manchester police responded. Police arrived at the scene and several cruisers parked in the boat ramp area, preventing vehicles from going down the ramp. Detectives arrived at about 9 am. The NH State Medical Examiner arrived at the scene, and shortly after a local funeral home transported the male from the scene. Manchester Lt Shawn McCabe verified that a deceased adult male was found at the scene, and at this time the untimely death is being investigated by Manchester Police. No identity or age of the victim is available at this time. The boat ramp area was the location of an incident on December 2, 2020, Manchester fire department was called to the boat ramp area where the water level from the Merrimack river had risen flooding many tents, and leaving people stranded. Fire crews rescued the people but no one was hurt in the incident. The City Of Manchester has investigated three different deaths in the month of December in areas occupied by homeless camps. On December 1, 2020, an adult male was found deceased. At the time of the initial discovery Manchester police did not believe the death was suspicious. On December 5, 2020, a homeless man was found in a tent that had caught on fire and was deceased. That death was investigated by the NH fire Marshal's Office, Manchester police and fire. Initial investigation shows that it appeared the man died from smoke inhalation from the fire. The cause and origin of the fire continue to be investigated. In an incident on December 2, 2020, the Manchester fire department was called to the boat ramp area where the water level from the Merrimack river had risen flooding many tents, and leaving people stranded.
