Description
I am on the production team for This Is My Brave - The Show in Philadelphia (www.facebook.com/timbphilly). Our show is connected to the nonprofit, This Is My Brave (thisismybrave.org), which is centered on the power of storytelling to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness. The vision is to one day live in a world where we don't have to call it "brave" to talk openly about mental illness. We'll simply call it talking. Each show is a live presentation filled with touching essays, original music, poetry, comedy, dance, and more. Each story is performed by individuals living with – or loving someone with – a mental illness and/or substance use disorder. Shows have been held in cities and towns across the country. Our goal is to bring together cast diversity, condition diversity, and creative expression diversity, along with placing emphasis on including a diverse demographic (18+) that represents the Greater Philadelphia community. Right now we are specifically seeking singer-songwriters who have (or would like to write) an original song about the topic of living with or loving someone who has lived with mental illness or addiction. There is also a very strong emphasis on the "hope" part of living with mental illness, as well as an ask to keep it as PG-13-friendly as possible. We are on a slightly tight deadline for bringing on Cast Members, as the first rehearsal and Cast Welcome Party are taking place on June 25th. That being said, if you might be interested in writing a new piece, it would not necessarily have to be completed by that time at all - a rough draft/intro version of a piece would be sufficient. The show will be at the Ambler Theater on Sunday, October 9th. If you are interested in auditioning, I will share more information about the rehearsal schedule, in addition to some other details and examples of past musical performances when I hear from you. Please note this is an UNPAID opportunity to add your voice/work to an incredible cause. Shows are videotaped and shared widely online and on social media, and it is always exceedingly positive publicity for everyone involved. Looking forward to connecting! Jenny
