Send Us Your Soil to Help Find Cures, $50

Events

360 Huntington Ave near Mugar Life Sciences Building, Boston MA

Description

The Antimicrobial Discovery Center, led by Professor Kim Lewis at Northeastern University, is conducting research to discover new antibiotics to treat infectious bacterial pathogens. These compounds are often found by screening compounds produced by non-pathogenic bacteria found in soil. There is an amazing diversity of (harmless) bacteria found in any sample of soil; but not all soil is the same. A wide sampling from different locations will help our efforts. You can help by collecting soil from your own property in a Ziploc bag and mailing it to us. We will pay $50 (as a gift card) for your efforts and cover shipping costs through FedEx. Please contact us via email if you are interested and we would reach out and guide you in the process, prior to shipping your soil sample for FedEx account info and details. Limit of one sample per inquiry.
