Students will have the opportunity to build critical life skills as they participate in two of Alpha's classic workshops, “Now You See Me” and “PFX.” Dates: May 21st & June 4th Location: 1011 Clint Street, Carrollton, TX 75006 Time: 10:00-12:00 PM Parents will drop off at 10:00AM and hear briefly from our Campus Director. They can then leave and pick students up at 12:00 PM. “Now You See Me” Life Skill Focus: Public Speaking Prepare to be dazzled and amazed! All magicians must be great verbal and non-verbal communicators. In this workshop, students engage in public speaking through magic. Students will learn by doing as they develop their own magic trick. Students will pull together a magic performance using the skills and techniques learned in the workshop. “PFX” Life Skill Focus: Learn to Learn Practical effects popular in old Hollywood movies are quickly making a comeback as producers attempt to find more interactive and realistic effects for actors. In Practical FX (PFX), students will build simple machines, play with fire, and create hydraulic robots. Through navigating a series of independently selected challenges, they establish fundamental skills in constructing practical effects. Each pathway of tasks is unique to the student navigating it, inspiring independence and ownership of the workshop. Those that successfully complete PFX will have mastered the ability to read, interpret, and follow directions independently of adults. Sometimes, shaking up tradition is exactly what’s needed to inspire a revolution. At Alpha Dallas, we’re reimagining education and paving a path to better learning for our students. Kids from kindergarten through eighth grade progress along individualized learning pathways and gain life skills that set them up for success beyond the school setting (think: computer science, public speaking, personal finance, and more).
