Improperly Discarded Smoking Materials Cause Apartments To Catch Fire

TAMPA, FL — No one was injured after a fire broke out Tuesday at a two-story apartment building in the 2400 block of East Lake Avenue in East Tampa. Tampa Fire Rescue received a call at 5:20 p.m. and Engine 4 arrived first to find light smoke showing. The fire started on the balcony of a second-story apartment and traveled up into the attic space. Firefighters made an interior attack on the fire, along with ground and aerial attacks. The fire was under control within 60 minutes. A primary and secondary search was done but there was no one inside the two apartments involved in the fire. One was vacant at the time. Tampa Fire Rescue investigators determined the cause to be improperly discarded smoking materials.
