SECAUCUS, NJ — Starting May 23 and running through June 5, the Secaucus Police Department will deploy extra patrols specifically looking for drivers doing the following: Not wearing seat belts (or children not properly restrained)Talking on the phone or texting while drivingDrunk, drugged or "buzzed" drivingThis is part of the national "Click it or Ticket" campaign. The Secaucus Police Dept. may even do high-visibility seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols, to reiterate the life-saving value of seat belts. In New Jersey, a key focus of this year's Click It or Ticket campaign is to promote seat belt usage by adults in all seating positions in the vehicle, both front AND rear seats. In New Jersey, 93 percent of adults buckle up in the front seat, according to State Police data. However, only 48 percent of riders put on seat belts in the back seat.
