GREENWICH, CT — A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday after police said they found shoplifting tools during a motor vehicle stop.
Nicolas Diaz-Gonzalez, of Queens, N.Y., was charged with: improper use of a license plate/registration marker; illegally altering a motor vehicle ID number; operating a vehicle without a license; failure to insure a private motor vehicle; sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny; and illegal possession of a shoplifting device.
According to an arrest report, on May 16 at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Milbank Avenue, an undercover Greenwich police officer noticed Diaz-Gonzalez replacing his Florida registration plate with a New York registration plate.
Marked units initiated a motor vehicle stop, and Diaz-Gonzalez was unable to provide insurance or a valid form of identification, police said.
An inventory of Diaz-Gonzalez's property found multiple shoplifting tools, police said, and he was subsequently interviewed at police headquarters.
Police said Diaz-Gonzalez confessed to coming to Greenwich in order to commit larceny with two other people.
Diaz-Gonzalez was given a court-set bond of $1,000, and is scheduled to appear in court May 31.
